One of the 4 shelters recently donated by ICEJ was delivered to Moshav Mavqi’im on January 17, 2010, a few kms north of Gaza border. This “bus stop” shelter protects against rocket shrapnel, weighs 30 tons, has a 15 person capacity, & will withstand direct hit. A large shelter (50 person / 70 ton) to be delivered to Mavqi’im & also to an Ashkelon school in a few days, & another small shelter was deployed in Talme Yafe in Hof Ashkelon.
Operation Lifeshield was founded by American-Israeli businessmen Mr. Shep Alster and Mr. Josh Adler. They were visiting the Galilee region of Northern Israel at the time of the Second Lebanon War in 2006, and found themselves among thousands of residents in immediate danger of Hezbollah rocket fire, and with no place to seek shelter. As a result of this experience, they took action and started Operation Lifeshield.
Our shelter construction design and manufacturing process conform with the strictest guidelines and approval of the Israeli Defense Force Home Front Command. Several types of shelters are available in order to best protect schools, kindergartens, synagogues, parks, sidewalks, bus stops and senior day centers.
Operation Lifeshield is overwhelmed with requests from municipalities asking for shelters, with preparation against enemy attack an ongoing measure. The 60+ shelters currently deployed have been donated by caring individuals and organizations from around the world, including Jewish and Christian groups.
Our Mission
Operation Lifeshield in an emergency campaign to save innocent lives by providing Israel’s threatened communities with the protected air raid shelters they so desperately need.
Civilians have been instructed to locate "safe zones" - stairwells or bomb shelters - in which they will be least exposed to rocket attacks. 8 months ago
